Today was our last day in the base home. We woke up early and everyone was quick to bring their suitcases to the front of the house before breakfast. After our delicious breakfast, we all completed our last mental warm-up and we took time to write on the “Thank You” card for our amazing nutrition specialists; Emilia (aka Amelia to some of us ;)) and Diego.
We spent three hours doing our final activity which was to reflect on our experiences throughout the trip. Those of us who were not able to call home yesterday made their phone calls. After this, we did a final check in every room to make sure that nothing was left behind, also ensuring that we left the rooms better than we found them. Our final lunch at the base home came and went in a blink of an eye. We then presented our card to Emilia and Diego; they were very pleased to receive the card we made for them! :>
Around 1:30 pm, we started loading our luggage on the bus and departed for San Jose five minutes before our scheduled departure. What a feat this was for us! On our way there, we made a quick stop at a souvenir shop in Cartago where many of us bought goodies to take back home. We arrived at the same hotel we stayed in on our first night in Costa Rica. They had a buffet waiting for us at dinner time. We closed the night off with our last dinner and nightly meeting. In this meeting, we spoke about our busy schedule for tomorrow and how excited we are all are to see our loved ones!

As we’re reading your final post from the base home, we can almost feel the whirl of emotions you must be experiencing. The early morning hustle, the last breakfast with your group, the final mental warm-up – all of these seemingly mundane moments must be taking on a new significance. It’s like that feeling you get when you’re at the end of a really good book, isn’t it?
Writing the ‘Thank You’ card for Emilia and Diego was such a thoughtful gesture, and we’re sure they appreciated it greatly. After all, they played a crucial role in keeping your group fueled and ready for action! By the way, we’re giggling at the ‘Amelia’ nickname, it’s so like you guys to find fun in everything.
The reflection activity must have been quite something! We can imagine it must have been a blend of laughter, nostalgia, and maybe even a few tears. We’re looking forward to hearing all about it when you’re back home. And speaking of home, we can’t help but feel a flutter of excitement knowing you’re coming back tomorrow!
As you journeyed back to San José, stopping at the souvenir shop and checking into your first-night hotel must have given you a sense of coming full circle. We can almost taste the delightful buffet and feel the anticipation of tomorrow’s journey home!
Your final nightly meeting sounds like it was a bittersweet moment, with the exciting thought of seeing your loved ones again. We want you to know we are equally excited! We can’t wait to see you and listen to your countless stories, watch your bright eyes as you recount your adventures and see how this wonderful journey has left its imprint on you.
As your parents, we’re filled with such pride seeing the way you’ve grown through these experiences. Tomorrow may mark the end of this trip, but it’s also the beginning of many more adventures that life holds for you. Travel safe, we’ll see you soon!
