Hey everyone! My name is Derek Ma and I go to Abraham Lincoln High School in SF! I am 17 years old and I am both nervous and excited to go on this trip to Costa Rica. At the beginning of the summer, I went to the East Coast for a trip and I think it definitely prepared me for the flight experience. A few fun facts about me: I enjoy dancing, a hobby I am most proud of and passionate about. I am currently in my school’s K-pop dance group called Koresence and I joined LionDanceMe’s Dance Revolution program where we practice dances during the summer of 2023. My other hobbies are reading, playing video games, and listening to music (esp K-pop!). The reason I decided to apply for Global Glimpse was to get out of my comfort zone and obtain leadership skills. I am rather shy and introverted, so it is a little difficult for me to converse with others. However, I’m hoping this experience will let me open up to new people and gain confidence in myself. I am also excited to learn about a new place with a different culture and perspective. I hope we get along well and please do not be shy to start conversations with me! See you all soon!
