Student Trip Blog

Hola from Liz!

My name is Liz Alfaro (she/her) and I will be one of the Global Glimpse Leaders for our trip to the Dominican Republic. I am excited to meet you all and to experience such a beautiful country together. This will be my second trip with Global Glimpse and had an amazing time in Costa Rica last year! I know that this trip will not only be memorable but also a great way to challenge ourselves to get out of our comfort zone.

When my coworker asked me to sponsor Global Glimpse at our school, I jumped at the chance to be a part of something so unique and such a great opportunity for high school students. I started to travel extensively during my time at UCLA and have continued throughout the years. Global Glimpse was the perfect balance of my two great passions in life, traveling and working with students.

My passion for travel is more than just a hobby; it’s a way of life, an insatiable curiosity that propels me across borders and into new adventures. With over 50 countries already under my belt, each stamp in your passport tells a story of exploration and discovery. From the bustling streets of Colombia to the serene landscapes of New Zealand, I’ve embraced the diversity of cultures, languages, and landscapes that our world has to offer.

But my love for travel isn’t just about ticking off destinations on a map—it’s about the connections you make along the way. As someone who adores working with high school students, I’ve found a way to intertwine your passion for exploration with my desire to help students on their journeys. Whether it’s through leading student trips abroad or sharing my experiences at the College and Career Center, I strive to broaden their horizons and ignite their wanderlust.

When I’m not traveling across the globe, I’m channeling my energy into coaching tennis. As I guide the players through the highs and lows of the game, I instill in them not just the skills to excel on the court, but also the determination to overcome obstacles and embrace new challenges.

Beyond my love for travel and tennis, my heart lies in all things postsecondary. Whether it’s mentoring students through the college application process or helping them navigate the complexities of higher education, I’m dedicated to empowering the next generation to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential. My help doesn’t just stop at graduation—I’m committed to supporting students as they embark on their postsecondary journeys, offering advice, encouragement, and unwavering support every step of the way. There’s no greater joy than seeing young minds flourish and thrive as they chart their paths towards success.

See you all soon!

Hey Liz, I’m known you for some time but this was such a beautiful and comprehensive bio that I learned a lot of new things about you. 50 countries, wow! I know this isn’t your first time to the DR but hope you all have a wonderful trip. When you return you should check out a couple of the trip blogs from our LA trips to see experiences of students that grew up in the same neighborhood that you did.
