Indigenous Culture Day! July 25, 2023

Hey, this is Valerie and Emily here!

Today, our day was very business-focused. We finally had our meeting with Mauricio who we have partnered with to do our Community Action Project. He accepted all of our great ideas of fixing up the school and making it look fresh and clean. Next, we made our way to Cacha Alir Sams where we had lunch with the Cacha community. We were given a variety of foods and that includes us trying GUIEAN PIG (Cuy)! To be honest, it was pretty good! After that, we had our tour at Cacha Alir Sams, where we got to learn more about Indigenous’ history and their native plants. Lastly, before our tour ended, we had a cleansing ceremony that they did for us with different plants. It’s part of their culture to leave out any negative energy that we have taken with us. Once our tour ended, we came back to the hotel where met with Mauricio again to finalize our materials for our project and we had dinner after that! It was so delicious after a long day of touring and negotiating. We had beef, rice, salad, and orange tea – all thanks to Isabel for her amazing cooking! We called it a night after that and we are so stoked for tomorrow!! Stay tuned for that!

With So Much Love- Valerie and Emily

Querida Señora Isabel – Gracias por mantener a nuestros hij@s bien alimentad@s. :o)
And Wow! You all ate Guinea Pigs?! How brave! Can’t wait to hear the details of this experience, Siboney! LOL You know I would have struggled because I grew up caring for them as pets…not as potential meals.
Isani sang happy birthday to me this morning and I missed you… We will get to celebrate together when we see you next week.
I love all that you are learning with the Cacha community. What a beautiful experience. I hope you are able to keep a journal.
Con cariño,
Mamá Zoia

I am glad they agreed with all your amazing ideas. I believe cleaning up the school and making it look neat is an awesome idea. Wow I cant believe you all got to try guinea pig. Aaliyah did you get brave enough to try it? Looks like you are all being well feed by Isabel. Gracias Isabel. I can’t wait to hear about tomorrow.

Meghan, I think Dad will be so proud of you for trying guinea pig. However, I’m going to reserve judgement along with Spike, OUR PET GUINIEA PIG! I doubt he’ll ever be able to trust you again. He’ll probably be able to smell his kin on your breath. You’re going to have to chew a lot of Big Red to get rid of the evidence.
Love you!

I’m so glad that Mauricio liked your ideas about fixing up the school; can’t wait to see the work y’all do. Shout out to the Cacha community for sharing their culture and history with you. So many things to say about the little Cuy dude;) We look forward to the blog posts every morning-keep ’em coming! Love you, Sibo! Dad

Hope you are enjoying the different foods there and making great memories. What a great experience to see how others live around the world. We miss you, but it’s great that we can use your bed for all the laundry we’re too lazy to fold right away. :-). Keep learning and enjoying all your new experiences!

Y’all ate Guinea Pigs!? How brave! Yeah, I would have struggled with Cuy since I grew up taking care of them as pets…
Can’t wait to hear about your experience, Sibo, especially about learning with the Cacha community.
Que sigan las aventuras!
