Hello, Glimpsers and Families!
My name is Maggie Madden, and I’m one of your GGLs (Global Glimpse Leaders)! I’m excited to get to know each of you individually before we spend two weeks learning together in Jarabacoa.
Before we travel, I wanted to share a little bit about me. I currently teach high school English in Chicago, and this is my first year with Global Glimpse. I’m looking forward to experiencing my first GG trip alongside all of you!
I love traveling because it relates to one of my other biggest passions— teaching. The lessons we learn when we meet new people, broaden our horizons, and engage with cultures different from our own are some of the most transformative.
Since I’m an English teacher, I love to journal because if allows me to look back on my thoughts and emotions at different points in my life. Before I end this post, I’ll leave you with a few journal questions of your own if you also want to prepare (and hype) yourself for our trip:
- Think about why you chose this program and trip. What interested you about Global Glimpse when you first heard about it? What are you hoping to get out of the trip?
-
Think about Jarabacoa. What comes to mind? Do you have a picture in your head of what it looks like? What do you know about their history and culture, and what do you want to learn more about?
-
Think about what you’re most excited for. Do you have any personal goals or “challenges” for the trip, such as trying a certain number of new foods? Have you thought of ways to be present during the trip, such as talking with a new friend on the bus instead of napping?
See you on June 26th! Big love!
Maggie
