Hello families, we are Laisha and Hermione! Today, we started off the day by waking up early at 6:00 am, then headed straight to Isabel’s for breakfast. Then we caught a bus to Guano to visit a few local businesses. The first business was Cerquie, which produces quinoa cereals. The journey first starts off with natural quinoa grains, which are then put through a process where the grains are compressed, flavored, and prepared for the market. The business currently sells three flavors: chocolate, vanilla, and passionfruit. Next, we headed to Zapateria Arevalo to see the process of homemade leather shoes being created. By first cutting the needed amount of leather, the leather strips are glued and heated together to start the formation of a shoe. With the help of some machines, the workers were able to efficiently morph the leather strips with shoe soles to form shoes. Finally, we took the bus to Carlos Garbay, which is the first school for disabled students in Ecuador. The school gave these students a chance to learn skills that would provided useful for their daily lives when they get jobs despite their disabilities. Their disabilities ranged anywhere from physical to mental disabilities. We took the time there to gather ideas for our Community Action Project (CAP). This project is meant to help a community, or communities, receive a form of sustainable improvement that our Global Glimpse group worked towards. At 2:00 pm, we headed back to Riobamba to have a late lunch at Isabel’s and returned to the hotel for the CAP 2 meeting. We decided our project to be a mix of restoring a gazebo, fixing trash cans, and painting/touching up murals on the school walls. We divided into three groups to create presentations for the next day as we will see if our ideas would result in a good project. Afterwards, we headed to Isabel’s for dinner and had delicious pizza! Thank you for keeping up with our Global Glimpse group!

What a productive day! Y’all are learning so much! And those are great ideas for your CAP at Carlos Garbay. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your process. Me parece genial que han tenido tiempo de visitar el colegio para conversar con los estudiantes y para observar lo que se necesita para el CAP. Adelante, Global Glimpsers!

Hello Zoe, so glad Laisha and Hermione published a group photo today. Your smiling face made my day! I hope the projects are keeping you engaged. I had to harvest a few of the cucumbers today and store them in the fridge before they start to ripen. How was the pizza? Better than Mountain Mikes?
You are loved and missed always!

I’m so happy to learn that our students are being exposed to life outside the states. I believe that helps them expand their horizons and be able to look at life through a different lens. My wife and I worked with students with disabilities for many years so this is a subject that is near and dear to our hearts. Thank you so much for sharing and we can’t wait to see you Aaliyah!! (love you mija)…
