¡Hola!
To parents and whoever else is reading this: Another blog coming to you guys from Riobamba.
Just wanted to let you all know that we are all doing okay. Today, we took a trip to the Mercado San Alfonso. We split into a buddy system and were able to work with local vendors from Riobamba. Although it was a slow day in the market, all Glimpsers were able to experience the daily life of a vendor here. We had the opportunity to work as a local vendor and help out with anything they needed. For example, many Glimpsers were peeling green beans, husking corn, and bagging products to sell. We were really able to connect with many locals and experience that sense of community. After the Mercado, we went to our main food provider where we ate some delicious juicy chicken and white rice with a side of avocado salad.
After lunch, we had a little bit of free time. Some Glimpsers decided to hang out in the common area of the hotel, while other students decided to take some time to themselves. Later into our free time, some Glimpsers decided to take a trip to Cafe Paris, a local crepe shop about a 5-minute walking distance from the hotel. Students were able to enjoy their crepes and later come back to the hotel where we had our first CAP (Community Action Project) seminar and learned about the location of our CAP project. It will be at Carlos Garbay, which is the first school for students with disabilities in the Chimborazo province. Later on, we had dinner at our main food provider where at the end we had a little dance party where Glimpsers had the chance to have some fun and really got to connect with one another. That is all we have for today. Tomorrow our new LDDs (Líderes del Día) will blog about our day.

Meghan, your day sounds amazing. I wish I could relive my childhood with you and experience that juicy chicken and dance party. Unfortuntely, I’m not sure I’ll be participating in any dancy dance parties soon because I kind of threw out my back. Who knew yard work was an extreme sport? I was just watering my favorite ferns when it felt like somebody shot me in the back with a Glock 37 (I have no idea if that’s a real weapon). I was crying, the dog was crying, the ferns were crying. It was not a pretty sight, but I managed to crawl inside the house and onto my bed. Long story short….I have an ouchie.
Miss you tons!
