Bienvenidos to CAP Delivery Day 1! Today marked the beginning of our community action project in Dios Dira. The project consisted of us Glimpsers, GGLS, PCs, and of course, the community members, renovating the local basketball court. Some of us went down to the court to repaint and fill in the lines, pick up the trash, and have some fun with the kiddos! Others stayed back at our accommodation, building some benches for everyone, since all the community had to sit on was one lone log. Things were pretty hectic and stressful, but nonetheless, we got a ton done and it was all worth it to see the community members with their big smiles. Something that really touched my heart was seeing a bunch of the little kids with paint brushes in their hands, so eager to help us! It really got me thinking that “Wow, what we’re helping this community do is actually going to impact every single person.”

Before:

The question of the day, “What is sustainability and why is it important to integrate it into development projects?” were in our minds all day and I definitely think we have an answer to that. Sustainability, as defined by the Merriam- Webster Dictionary, is the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level, and it is exactly that. For a project as important as ours to be successful, sustainability is key. What’s the point of doing what we’re doing if it’s not going to be kept alive in the long run? With all of the community members so engaged and putting so much hard work and effort into this project, it is clear that our work will be sustained to its fullest.

Before:

Being Lider Del Dia was truly an experience. I was pretty nervous at the start of the day and some last minute changes got me in a panic for a bit, but I knew that I couldn’t let that stop me and that I had to be a leader for my fellow Glimpsers. After the restless yet worthwhile day, I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and hope that I set a good example of the 3 C’s: Courage, Compassion, and Commitment. I always strive to be someone that is able to lead and set a good example for others, but I never really thought I had it in me. Today, however, has given me much more confidence and I genuinely believe that in every single one of us, there is a leader, even in myself. Hope all of those back home enjoy this little glimpse into our day!
