Hello students and parents!  I hope you all have been enjoying your summers so far and are preparing yourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally for what is sure to be an impactful and unforgettable experience for your whole family.  I can say from personal experience that reading up on a new place- researching the history/culture/literature/music of the place- can make the immersion process go a bit more smoothly, so I hope you are learning a lot about Granada prior to takeoff on the 30th!

As you may have seen in the introductory email Holly sent out last week, I just finished up a year with City Year, a non-profit, where I worked as an in-class and after-school English tutor at William C. Overfelt High School in East San Jose.  I’m passionate about the power of reading and writing and learning various languages to change our world into a more compassionate place.  I have traveled to Central America before (to Costa Rica and Honduras) and spent a semester living in Lima, Peru during college, as well as having taken trips to Colombia and Spain.  I am looking forward to returning to Latin America and being in Nicaragua for the first time.

When I’m not working, I am dancing salsa, learning Portuguese, reading memoirs and National Geographic, and exploring the diverse state of California.  Can’t wait for this new adventure to begin!
