Today was an interesting day for all of the glimpsers and we’ve learned a great deal about Ecuadorian culture. In the early morning, we had traditional folklore dances from Ecuadorian cultures. What we noticed as a group was that the dances were very fast paced and had simple moves that were extremely exquisite. During the dances, I had  the chance to put on a traditional fur pants for dances. However, what surprised me the most was that the pants were very heavy and it became hard for me to keep up with the dances, but despite the tiredness and hardships, I saw the dancers who were showing us the dances didn’t show any remorse. I respect their endurance and they maintained positive attitudes through the entire time. After the dances, it was our time to show the dancers our American pop cultures. Some of the songs and dances that we showed and taught them were Whip, Nae Nae, and etc. I noticed how attentive they are despite they never tried it before. All of them were having fun and really enjoyed themselves, which I believe was our goal today as well because we left something behind for these people to remember even after we are leaving. Afterwards in the afternoon, we went to a cooking school called RioGourment to learn how to make empanadas. Empanada is a type of Ecuadorian food, a pastry with meat inside. During the process, everyone was very attentive and involved in making of the food. Each of everyone had a job to do, such as cutting the veggies, cooking, making and rolling dough. All of us were very focused and my part was cooking the beef and veggies. Despite having no previous experience in cooking, my friends helped me to prevent burns and get the perfect texture for the food. I appreciated their actions and I believe that’s what teamwork is for. Overall today being El Lider Del Dia, I’ve learned that in order to be a good leader, I have to think many things ahead and make sure everything is perfect. Furthermore, I think I learned a lot today as a leader and I learned that timing is everything in this world.
