Hello everyone! We are just unwinding now at the end of a long first day of travel to Matagalpa. Everything went great with our flights, luggage, & journey by bus from Managua to Matagalpa. We had a lovely lunch when we got here and started getting to know the local staff that will be supporting us for the next two weeks as well as starting to get to know each other better. So far there’s been lots of talk about getting used to the HEAT, the FOOD, and the BUGS…all totally harmless, just little things to adjust to on night 1! 🙂
Tomorrow we kick off our first full day of learning with guest speakers who will help us learn about Nicaragua’s history, followed by a city tour and a trek to a panoramic viewpoint at the top of one of the many hills in the city — you can see some of them in the photo taken from one of the balconies at our hotel.

What’s up Glimpsers! My name is Brandon Chan, a recent graduate of Independence High School. You may hear from me throughout these blogs as I am especially excited for this trip specifically because I went to the same city and stayed in the exact same hostel as all of you! I hope you all take something away from this beautiful and amazing city that you will take with you for the rest of your lives. A year ago, I was in your shoes, and a year later I’m glad to put them back on and walk down memory lane. This trip will fly by so don’t be afraid to learn and/or try something new because it may be a looong time before you come back to Matagalpa or see the people around you again so build relationships and have fun! Lastly, I want to leave you guys with this quote that my in country leader, Denis Vallejos, left my delegation M2A 2016 with; “Manage with your mind, lead with your heart.” I’ll leave that for each of you to interpret in your own unique ways. Get a good night sleep, you’ll need it EVERY NIGHT! its ya boi signing off 🙂

To my lovely Andrew hill falcons, I’m so glad you guys made it safe to matagalpa!! I remember going through that long flight and getting hit with the hot weather when I landed in Managua. I’m so excited for this delegation! If you don’t know me I’m Vicky, a gg alumni from Andrew hill and I was a part of the m1a fam last year!! I can’t wait for you guys to experience what matagalpa brings to the table. I know a big portion of this delegation is from ahill, so remember to kick the clique and get close to the others.
