We finally made it to Riobamba! After many hours of traveling, we landed in Quito late last night and were met by our Program Coordinators, Melissa and Ana. We went to our hostel for the night and quickly went to bed. Students handled a 7am wake up call on little sleep amazingly. Upon waking up, we were surprised by the beautiful views from our hotel that we hadn’t seen when it was dark. After breakfast, we left for Riobamba in our private bus and arrived 4 hours later.

Once in Riobamba, we checked into our super nice hostel, Tren Dorado. Everyone was impressed with how clean and nice the accommodations were. Students checked in and we headed to lunch at Roma Santa, where we ate spectacularly. After lunch, Ana and Melissa led us on a city tour where students learned about Ecuadorian history, some well-known landmarks in Riobamba, and located places they may want to visit on their free days (internet cafe and shopping were high on the list).

After the city tour, we were treated to ice cream! Not long after that, we returned to Roma Santa for dinner, which was also delicious. Finally, we went back to Tren Dorado for our nightly meeting and self-reflection. Students made insightful comparisons to the Ecuadorian history they learned to U.S. history. Overall, the students have remained amazingly positive on very little sleep and are getting to know each other.

Looking forward to Culture Day tomorrow! Stay tuned for more…
