Hey everybody, I’m Richard (but please, call me Joe) and I attend Summit Preparatory Charter High in Redwood City, and I had the pleasure of being today’s “Lider del Día”!

Today definitely had a much lighter tone than yesterday, but came with its own unique and fun challenges! We woke up bright and early at 5:30 in the morning, and took the long walk to Esteli’s market. We worked with various types of vendors. Some of us pre-packaged cheese, some of us made sour cream, and others worked in fruit stands. All of us learned just how hard each of these people work, and we all had our own fun and unique experiences. After that, we all cut cake, and gave gifts to those merchants who gave us this amazing experience!

After that, we headed back to our hotel, El Chico, and further prepared for our Community-Action-Project. Unfortunately, our CAP time was very stressful today, as we had to split up, and all find different information, and combine it all into a feasible, yet still fun and impassioned idea to build our Eco-Park.

Our final activity of the day was to prepare and deliver another English class. This activity, while not without its own sweat and tears, had us all reporting that today provided our best classes yet. We’ve all come so far since that first lesson, and it shows. In my class especially, all of us were playing and laughing, yet genuinely dedicated to learning the language!

Being the leader of the day was an amazing experience. Even though the early morning threw me off, and put me out of my element, by the end of the day, I felt strong, confident and I knew that a leader’s job is less about organizing, and more about being a genuine, kind, and thoughtful person. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds! Everybody wish good luck to Parry, our next leader of the day!

E1C over and out!
