Today, us Glimpers had a veryyyyy earlyyyyyyyyy morning. We had a amazing, ecstatic, and wonderful wake up call at 4:30 am. ( YAYY!!) By 5:30 we were on the bus, on our way to a farm, called La Canavalia. After having Scrambled eggs, Gallo Pinto, and Cheese for breakfast, we split up into three groups: “the poop crew,” the vegetable group, and the fruit group. Each group was exposed to different jobs that farmers here in Nicaragua do daily. The poop crew had the best task of all three, which was to scrape the Cow’s poop off the floor (Yuuummm). However, we did get to carry bunnies. We got to experience how cleaning up after an animal is just as important as milking a cow or collecting eggs. The Vegetable group did not have as much “fun.” They just picked weeds with a hoe. The fruit group did the same thing but used their hands and a machete, which Alex was salty about because he wasn’t in that group. After 3 1/2 hours of grueling work in La Canavalia, we ate a little snack, which was a potato with chicken inside. The manager of the farm, Sara, gave us a very eye-opening speech about being grateful, rather than wasteful. She talked about how hard it is to produce the food we eat, which takes a long time to make, but very little time to eat or throw away. This speech definitely changed our perception on how much food we buy, eat, and waste. Not only are grateful for the food we eat, but also for the hard work put into it, from our parents to the farmers all the way back picking the food set on our table.
After the very touching speech, we traveled back to the hostel with light music from Dennis (MUCH better than the morning.) We ate lunch which was Teriyaki style chicken with white rice. We had three hours of free time, where some people bought a lot of gifts ( Hint, hint @ family members,) called home, tried new approved food, or simply went to the cyber cafe. After learning from yesterday’s Alpha group experience, we all arrived on time! During those three hours, we also prepared for our second English tutoring classes, which all went extremely well and had Dinner, which was rice with some unusual substance (don’t worry, we’re all still alive.) Both the Glimpers and the students are getting the hang to learn from each other. We walked back to the hostel after 1 1/2 hours of teaching, and had our wonderful nightly meeting. We passed the torch to Lee, who will update y’all tomorrow.
Despite being a very tiring, long day, we learned A LOT and grew together as a group.
Goooo GLOBAL GLIMPSERS!!! That must have been quite a morning of hard labor. Then teaching in the afternoon as well! Looking forward to reading about tomorrow’s next adventure!
August, we just did the same job on your room at home. Mom and I are feeling simpatico with your labor.
Thanks for the posts and pictures.
A great day on the farm. Just think not that many years ago that was the life of most in our country.
August, what an honor to be chosen for the “Poop”squad! Starting at the ground floor is best. By learning to handle poop early on the better you handle it later in life.
From the picture you appear to have a left handed work stance (think baseball batter). I think most right handed people do. But in working extended hours it is good to alternate stances as that will even out the soreness that might follow tomorrow.
The lesson is that everything has a use. It might be poop today. But it can eventually be used for fertilizer (as we did on the farm), converted into energy, or many other currently known uses. AND it is waiting for you to discover yet unkown uses.
‘Yall go to it.”

Hola Cinque!
Work…work..work does a body and mind good. Nothing enforces learning better than actually doing. Very glad that you all were able to give back to the community. Keep up the wonderful work. We miss you!Stay safe!
Much God & love,
Mom, Dad & Czar
August how did you get the job of scraping cow paddies! I think Dad is hoping you wore your hiking boots and not his sambas….it’s good practice for picking up after Boudreaux 🙂
I hope you got to hold a bunny too after all the mucking. Love seeing you smiling, even though I’m sure you weren’t doing much of that while cleaning up after the cows. Hope you are taking lots of photos and video. All is well here, looking forward to your call on Sunday, or your next free day. Love you.
Hey Ellis I see you holding a rabbit. Does that mean you were on the POOP crew!? Awesome!
Good to see your smiling face. Love you and missing you here in Evanston.
Thanks for the detailed description of your day. A day starting at 4 am must have been…fun. Very nice to hear that you all are enjoying new experiences and learning about how others to about their daily lives. Hope that all the GG’s are feeling better as the days go by. Ps I thought you might like to know, if you didn’t already, that your favorite player, Dwane Wade, is going to sign with the Chicago Bulls.
Hola Alejo! Como estas? I don’t see you in any of the pictures; did you sleep in and listen to your Premium Spodify music that I have repeatedly begged you to cancel because I don’t want to pay 11.99 monthly for it? It’s heartwarming that you can torture me remotely, this month’s charge just hit! Maybe you’ll bring me back a bunny as a birthday present for my 50th that you totally blew off.
Jasmine, I just finished my NASCAR driving experience!!! It was awesome!!! Maria took video. I passed a guy!! What a great birthday present!! I can’t wait until your home to see it. Sounds like you had a good day yesterday. Can’t wait until we can talk. I love you mi hija.
GG leaders, I just spoke with my daughter and she is not getting any of her messages. Apparently you read selected comments to the group. Why are you controlling our messages like this? Also even though there is a place to reply, the kids are not allowed to use the computers, so how can they reply? Can you please address this? I’m certain she is not the only one this is happening to? Dave Power
Hey Sarah, I know you miss me, and I definitely miss you. There’s only 11 days left until we see each other. I know you are beyond eager to spend time with me (as most people are, obvi). Just enjoy whatever time you have left there, and don’t let anything ruin it for you (not even missing me). Wo hen ai ni.
Jasmine, I keep looking for you in the pictures, but you must be avoiding the cameras. We want to see your smiling face. I can’t wait to hear all the stories you have when you get home.
Sarah M.

Hey Sarah M,
We all can’t believe you actually woke up that early! It sounds like you had a long day full of great experiences and learning at the farm. We hope you were in the “poop crew” so you could have played with the bunnies you like so much… and picked up cow manure. Don’t forget to get the coffee for mom!
Anthony I’m trying to keep up with the
blogs, but it seems as though they are not dated, nonetheless, I’m glad you get the opportunity to see how others live, and how to appreciate what you have.
Happy Blessed Born Day Son, Love the bright, loving, caring and concerned young man you are. Love you always, Mommy and Daddy
Miss you bunches Sara G. Happy you got your cute bunny fix. Kittens are crazy troublemakers but cute nonetheless. I love you, stay safe, work hard and enjoy! Love Mom
