At the Empalme we rode on the back of a pick-up truck to the La Bastilla Ecolodge Technical School where we divided into two groups. The first group stayed at the lower area and milked cows, collected chicken eggs and observed the process of making cheese while the second group rode upward to garden and care for the pigs. We worked from 6:30 to 11:00 a.m. and then met for a delicious lunch provided by the staff of the Technical Center. Afterwards, we took a tour of the picturesque Bastilla Ecolodge Hotel which offered a surreal view of the surrounding Jinotega mountains. After the tour, we rode back down to the hostel and after some free time, began to prepare for our English tutoring lessons. Shortly after, we had dinner at the comedor before going to our English classes. After English classes, we returned to the hostel for a nightly meeting and set aside some time for planning the start of our Community Action Project. Once confident that we would have a strong start in our endeavor, we retired to bed, eager to begin.
