ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for serious Chicago pride – someone with strong community knowledge, connections, and roots in Chicago who cares deeply about equity, education, and creating opportunities for young people from all backgrounds to travel. This role will lead Global Glimpse programs in the greater Chicago region promoting empathy, agency, and global perspective in diverse public high schools and supporting students to develop the skills they need to succeed in college and careers and drive change in their communities. You will recruit, train, and support a network of highly committed volunteer educators to nominate students that reflect the racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity of our Chicago partner schools, run effective virtual and in person information sessions and global learning workshops, prepare students for immersive global travel and leadership programs, and support follow on alumni leadership programming. YOUR OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPACT:

Be the face of Global Glimpse in Chicago:
Work closely with public school teachers, educators, and administrators across the greater Chicago region to support students from diverse socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds to develop empathy, agency, and global perspective. 

  • Set the annual strategy and budget for Chicago programs in partnership with the executive team and oversee the full program lifecycle
  • Lead trainings, workshops, information sessions and summits that meet teachers, parents, and students where they are 
  • Maintain a diverse portfolio of strong partner schools and recruit new schools that align with our mission 
  • Oversee sustainable program revenue and payment administration that supports access, equity, and financial sustainability in the region
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community and education leaders across the Chicago region
  • Process student applications, student payments, and support students and families with other travel logistics and important questions like passports, how to pack, etc.
  • Prep students and volunteer educator travelers for their trips, support families during the trips, and welcome the groups back by trying to ‘bring home’ the learning and connect their trip to their everyday lives and communities

OTHER IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Program management experience including experience managing volunteers
  • Knowledge of the K-12 education system
  • Strong public speaking skills and comfortable speaking and facilitating in front of groups
  • Experience with payment tracking, accounting, and budget management
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends (predetermined dates for presentations, trainings, summer flight support, and Alumni Summits)
  • Comfortable with Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides)

 

A TYPICAL DAY IN THIS ROLE:

You kick off a typical day by reviewing your calendar and ensuring you are prepared for internal and external meetings. You meet with the US Programs Team to review student recruitment goals, revenue goals, and student applications received to date. After that, you reach out to a group of Chicago teacher volunteers to check in on their student nominations and provide additional tips and recommendations for successful student recruitment. In the afternoon you start to process student applications that have come in so far to see what applications are missing key items. You close the day giving a presentation to students, parents, and teachers in a public high school on the South Side (or virtually). Every day is different in this dynamic role. You are connecting with team members across the US and supporting teachers in the Chicago region, tracking program revenue, updating curriculum, training, and presentations, and hosting trainings, workshops, and summits.

Our programs develop empathy, agency, and global perspective, empowering a new generation of young leaders with the skills they need to succeed in college and careers and drive change in their communities. 

We bring high school students from different racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and geographic backgrounds together through shared experiences. Since 2008 we have served over 8,000 students and 700 educators across 100 US high schools and provided over $14M in scholarships.

POSITION LOGISTICS

  • Location: Remote/home office based in Chicago
  • Travel Expectations: While we are a remote work team, in a typical year the Chicago Programs Manager can expect to have the following in-person commitments (many of them in the evening):
    • 10-25 school visits and/or presentations (generally weekday evenings)
    • 2 teacher trainings (weekends)
    • 3-5 ambassador summits (weekends)
    • 5-10 additional meetings or site visits
  • Start Date: We are assessing applications as they arrive; ideal start date is September 11th, 2023
  • Compensation: Compensation for this role is $70,000 – $95,000. We are proud to provide a total compensation package that puts the person first, and can discuss in more detail once a candidate has applied.  We have a comprehensive benefits package, learn more about our benefits here.
