Reporting to you live from San Juan De La Maguana where 19 natural born leaders, 2 Global Glimpse Leaders, and 1 ambassador brainstorm about our Community Action Project which will be taking place 7/17 and 7/18. For our Community Action Project, Global Glimpsers will help build a library in Jinova, which will be run by a group called “Fundeji.” The group felt very energetic and inspired about the project. They came up with a very distinctive detail/supply list that is needed in order to start our project. We split up into four groups, which were a Design, Organization, Cleaning Crew and Construction.
Secondly, the creative and intellectual Glimpsers taught students from all ages in English education in three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced. They did a great job with class number 3! As El Lider Del Dia, it was a very difficult job to maintain all the rollercoaster of emotions with the depressing news that a student named Imara and a Leader Dominique were leaving us due to health issues. We stuck through it, but problems came up when I had to keep repeating myself to the students. I was passionate about being in charge for the day, where everything revolves around your command. I also think being the one everyone goes to about everything is an exciting role to have. I realized that people who are in charge have a very difficult schedule to run by and it must be hard to be able to maintain emotions and anger when dealing with students.
When it was time to give Pluses and Wishes from the group to me, I felt accomplished and could feel that I am a Natural Born Leader who has a great future ahead of him. I know I can do so much more if it wasn’t for small things getting to me. It also makes me want to come back to the states and show off my skills and how much of an effective leader I am.. “Big love to all the teachers in the word because y’all the real MVP and these kids are tough. A lot of respect to you all.” – Rashid Hawkins

It’s so cool that you all are going to build a library… It helps you appreciate all the things we have in New York that we take for granted. And I love that you get to experience what it’s like being a teacher … Did you see yourself in any of the students?! Big Love to all of you 🙂
Well wishes to Dominique and Imara. Kaya I am so proud of you. You are doing great things. Love you!!!
Rashid,
It was so great to hear about your leadership! I have known you’ve had the capability all along – now you get to use it in Crew next year, too! It will be great for you to share your experiences with all of us in Crew 506. You ALL make us very proud! ~ Beth
Rashid, I’m glad you got a taste of what it’s like to lead teenagers, it is no easy feat! As I tell you all the time, growth is a process, and you are growing and learning from your experiences every single day. The sky is the limit. Just continue to keep and open mind and open ears.
I miss you all very much, but I ended up getting sicker. I’m in bed on medication but number 22 is there in spirit!
I’m so proud of you all – esp you, Rashid! And we’re all thinking of you, Dominique! Feel better soon! Can’t wait to hear all about your adventures when you get back!
