Hola! My name is Cristobal Alvarenga. I was the lider del dia on our first free day without adult supervision! Most of the students took advantage of this and went shopping “en el mercado,” play sports, roamed the city, and called friends and family. Going into this day, I expected it to be the easiest day to lead but it turned out to be one of the most difficult. However, we all had a lot of fun!
In these past two weeks, I have had some of the most inspirational experience of my life. One of them being a few days ago when we met a woman who has become successful thanks to an organization called FUMDEC. FUMDEC offers support to women starting businesses in rural communities. Entering this woman’s house caused me to have a flashback of the month I spent in El Salvador at my grandparents’ house. The parrot, the view, and the cuagada (cheese) all reminded me of the first and last time I saw my grandparents. This trip has given each of us a unique personal connection with Nicaragua.
A free day? Nice! 🙂 Yes, the first impression of ‘free’ day would be the easiest day to lead the group. Great job Cristobal having the group intact and disciplined and am sure you have learned a lot about yourself today – leading a group of teenagers without adult supervision. One thing I learned about reading the blogs everyday is that all of you Glimpsers are mature and responsible teens. I am glad my daughter, Paula, ended up with your group! You all take care and have fun!
Saying hello from the foggy peninsula,
Ann (Paula’s mom)
p.s. sending big hugs to you Paula! Miss you! Love, Mom
Yeah Free Day… I bet it was a task to keep track of everyone on this day… but you did it! It’s so nice to read all your blogs every day. I’ve also noticed how this trip is changing everyone’s perspective in life in general. Some of you have now peaked interests in areas that never came to mind. And some of you are probably having a few epiphanies about what life is really like outside of the US. Take these moments glimpsers and soak it in and store somewhere close to your heart. You will never forget these times ever! Can’t wait to see you all soon!
Lexie…. we miss you so much! the house hasn’t be so quiet in ages! We love you baby girl!..
