Today was an especially thought-provoking day where we were introduced to extreme poverty and programs that provide aid. We woke up at 7:00 AM and went to breakfast at Imabite around 8:00 AM, where we enjoyed repocheta (quesadillas) with rice and beans. After breakfast, we came back to the hostel to prepare for our field trip to the Leon dump.
At the Leon dump we met the pepenadores, the workers who sort out the trash to find materials they can sell to make their living. The men, women, and children were very friendly and eager to answer our questions and ask questions of their own. This was a place where we had to remember to always show respect to the workers and saw firsthand the effects of the cycle of poverty.
An important aspect of the cycle of poverty is breaking it, and as you may have heard, the CAP project is Global Glimpse’s way of helping to break the cycle. We met out partner organization, Chavaladas, today, who provide shelter, education, drug rehabilitation, and a safe space to boys. We are hoping to help them refurbish their classroom and brighten up their murals.
Tonight was the second night of English tutoring and it went even better than the first night! We’re all enjoying interacting with the students and getting to know them more and more.
Tomorrow we’re looking forward to shadowing a high school student! We hope everyone at home is doing well and had a fabulous day today also.

Hi Simone and fellow glimpsers! It’s nice to see all your smiling faces even after 5 days! You all are packing in a lot of work in one day…hope everyone is still feeling healthy. I have one question:
Why did the pirate use a coupon to buy corn?
He only had a buccaneer! ???
Sorry if the jokes are bad, Simone, it’s Alexa’s humor!
Love,
Mom ❤️
BRO !! JOKI !! COME BACK ALREADY FAM ! I NEED SOMEONE TO ANNOY !
I’m glad you guys got to see the other side of Leon, both the working class and the poverty and how hard it is to live day by day. Eduardo I just can’t waiting to hear from you (all about the trip) so take lots of notes because I got lots of questions for you, so how good of a teacher are you? Did you go out of your comfort zone to bring customers in the Mercado? I go more questions for when you come back. Do me a favor and thank everyone for me, that has been part of global glimpse and has made it possible for you and your friends to have such a great time. From the group leaders, cook’s, cleaning crew etc. Anyway in joy your days and don’t forget where miss you everyday love you.
Jeremiah, I am so proud of you! ? What you are accomplishing is priceless! The tremendous impact you are making there, I know will change your life and the lives of those around you. Seeing the cycle of poverty at the dump must have been a real eye opener. Sometimes we tend to forget that we are very fortunate and take it for granted.
What you and the other Glimpsers will continue to experience is definitely going to be life changing. Everything you guys go through, you will all grow through together. Cherish every moment and make them permanent in your mind and soul. ❤️
Your summer league Varsity basketball started today. Not sure who won. I’ll keep you posted once I find out.
BTW, I love your picture on here. You are totally chillin’! Its been amazing traveling along with you guys through your blog. I find myself reading them over sometimes lol….
I am excited for you to tell me all about your journey when you get back home. You will educate me on how to be a better Global Citizen…. Be safe! Don’t forget to bug spray and drink water.
I love you! ?
-Mom
PS. My friend Sabrina is from Nicaragua and she told me to tell you to try the dish Vigoron.
Nicole,
We are thinking of you everyday! What an amazing adventure you’re on and learning about other cultures (that are extremely different than ours). What a brave and wonderful soul! We miss you very much!
Love Dad, Mom, Alex, Molly, and Jacob
Hi Nicole, What an adventure for you and your new friends. I know them all, because I took their pictures at SFO airport. I’m really proud of you and how you are getting to see how other people live. It’s a little different, eh?

Fontanna, Sounds like you all had a fun, and profound day!
Im so proud your able to live this amazing experience.
Step out of your comfort zone…see the real world…and figure out the bigger meaning of Life.
I watched the Warriors victory game with coworkers on Monday, and am taking this morning to enjoy the victory parade expected a million people to attend.
Ha, it feels odd w/o hearing the everyday piano played at 5 to 6. I just have a taste of being an empty-nester! Mom & I are doing good. Miss you already. Dad
Wow its so nice to hear about how you guys help the nicaraguense communtiy. There is so much poverty there just as in many other places in the Centra America and around the world. Helping out can make a big difference, God bless this program that gives young youth the apportunity to help others and get the chance to learn to appreciate what they have.
Sister I send you toons of hugs and kisses. James keeps going to your room and shouts your name. It’s very lonly at home without you But I’m glad I will see you sonn And in the meanwhile keep having lots of fun. Mom left to Nicaragua to catch up with you this morning; I’m glad you’ll soon get to see her, I bet you miss her alot. Love you sister!!
Take care ? xoxo

Oh and you better take hella pictures to show us when you get back (Joanna said she wants pictures of the sunset). Okay well have fun and be safe!
-Your 2 losers!
Naasir, Sounds like yesterday was another adventurous and humbling day in Nicaragua. I hope that you and all the Glimpsers are having the time of your lives and taking in everything there is to experience in Leon. People here in the US say “the struggle is real,” but I’m sure that your visit to the dumps and meeting the pepenadores showed you a new level of struggle. I pray for a day when poverty is a thing of the past and everyone has enough.
It’s exciting that you will get to experience what high school life is like in Nicarauga. I hope your shadowing visit is lots of fun! As always, we miss you very much!
Flor,
Hey Flor. I barely found these blogs even though I used to write them. I’m so happy that I found it and that I see you and others enjoying the trip. I hope you are getting away in every single sense and that you are continuing to touch and change lives like I know you’re capable of doing! I’m keeping my promise of writing to you everyday and I just want you to remember everything I wrote to you in that letter. Continue to have fun and get away! I’ll talk to you soon, I love you.
Brian Lax Jr.
What an amazing and eye-opening experience for all of you. Reading the blog posts really help me to realize how truly blessed we are and just how much we take for granted. Continue to be safe and soak in everything possible. Naasir, I love you!
Sounds like you all are having a wonderful exciting experience! I look forward to hearing about your daily adventures.
Can’t wait to hear it in your own words.
Love you!

This was truly an inspiring read. I cannot imagine what it must be like to lead a life trying to sort through piles of human refuse every day in the hope of finding something to sustain on. Organizations like the CAP and Chavaladas are doing a splendid job trying to bring these people out of the vicious cycle of poverty and destitution.
