Hola!

Today we woke up pretty early at 4:45 am. We were not allowed to use any electricity to experience how people that do not have electricity feel. We had breakfast which was only gallo pinto and water, the dish is just rice and beans. Then we headed to one of the poorest community called Tejerina. We were assigned into groups of 2 or 3 people. We spent all morning with a family from 7:00 am to 12:30 pm.  Asha, one of our coordinators handed out lunch to each group to eat with our own family then she went to pick us up to head back to the hostel. We took pictures with our families and said some thank you words for letting us be in their home. After getting to the hostel everyone had to take a bucket shower to experience how those in the poor communities bath themselves. Then we had free time so we worked on our CAP presentation and getting our english classes prepare. At 5 we had  a self reflection meeting towards what we experienced today living $1 a day.

Overall I liked the activity we did today, made me realize that no matter what bad conditions people are facing here in Matagalpa they’re always happy. They appreciate every single thing they have in their life. Not one single time did I hear anyone from my family complain about something that they didn’t have. Hearing stories of their life showed how strong they have grown through out the years and there still here to keep going on in life.

It was such a good experience!
