Hi Parents!
We hope that you are having a good time because we are having a G R E A T time here in Constanza! Today we had “History & City Tour Day” to make feel each of these future leaders of the world at home! We learned about Dominican history and how it has impacted the culture, values, and beliefs of Dominicans. The city tour had approximately seven different stops of Constanza – the enchanted valley of the Caribbean – including the city hall, the first fire department in Constanza, and the main park “La Plaza” which is named after a Taino woman called Anacaona – a figure of the indigenous population of the Dominican Republic – go and check her history out on Wiki.
At the end of the city tour, ice cream was waiting for us! Today we met the Ambassadors – Teenagers living in Constanza that have a volunteer to live this experience with Glimpsers. After the city tour, we got to have our first self-reflection where we were able to talk about our experience in a new country and how it changes the way we look at things, giving us a new perspective on the way we live, and facilitate the “getting to know each other better part” at the nicest bakery of Constanza. But an even better experience to get to know each other and make this C2C family stronger was our life maps activity. This was right after lunch and with some reggaeton music in the background got us drawing about the three top life experiences that have marked us as human beings. After sharing each poster we felt like we as a group got to learn from each other in a deeper way. I just have to say that it required courage to open up to strangers the way we did today. But we do not feel like strangers now. We feel like we are building lasting relationships and that has impacted the group’s energy.
We got to experience how history can affect the future of our country and how important is to not repeat the mistakes of the past. We are enjoying staying here in Constanza and experiencing new things such as food, language, and culture. Everybody in the group is engaged in all the activities, asking a lot of thoughtful questions, and really making an effort to immerse themselves in the culture and practice the language. After dinner, we had our nightly meeting and some hot tea. We are having a great time and we know that tomorrow is going to be even better than today!!! Hope that you are reading this and seeing the fun that we are having! Talk to you soon! – Silvi, the Program Coordinator.
We also have vegetarian menus but I forgot to take a picture of it.
Scroll down to leave some comments….. We will try to share w/ the group.
Love seeing my sweet girl and all of these future leaders having so much fun and smiling! Thank you for the update! Love you Kenni.
Hiii Zoe!! I miss you so much and I’m so excited to see what’s next for you girl! I hope the city tour was enriching in that it helped to provide insight and awareness of the amazing culture. It’s so great to hear that you guys have gotten so much closer! There hasn’t been anything that’s happened in Amurica that’s been super duper crazy yet but some kid won $3 MILLION DOLLARS PLAYING IN THE FORNITE WORLD CUP GAMES. Anyway, I can’t wait to hear about the rest of your trip and the experiences to come. Love you Zoe!
Loved hearing from you all. What an amazing day by the looks on all your faces. I’ll be watching for more notes.
