We started off the day excited for what’s to come! Today we got to go to the a beach in Nicaragua. First it was breakfast, then we all went back to the hostel to prep for the beach. With swimming clothes on, snacks, towels, flip flops, and sunscreen with soccer balls also, we were off! As we were notified ahead of time that we were going to a ‘private island’ by boats, we felt pretty cool. With life jackets on, we went through a lake to arrive at the island.
Once there, we took a little walk to the beach area. Arriving at the beach, we waited for the red cross lifeguards to give us the all clear to enter the water. During the wait, people spent there free time playing soccer, taking pictures, and applying sunscreen. Once allowed to go into the water, everyone rushed in and enjoyed there time by bodysurfing, letting the waves hit them, going underwater, and most importantly cooling off from being under the hot Nicaraguan sun. Once it was time for lunch, the group sat down in a shack like area to enjoy either a cooked fish meal or a nice vegetarian meal. From mine and Ryan’s opinion the fish meal (which was a whole fish with eyes and teeth) was one of the best meals we have had in Nicaragua so far.
After lunch, we had a little time left at the beach so everyone enjoyed the last bit by playing soccer or collecting sea shells. Once time at the beach had expired, we took boats part ways back and walked the rest, but that is when a surprising part happened during the trip. In the shallow lake water were two sting ray skeletons! In overall though, everyone seemingly enjoyed the beach a lot and everybody had fun together, but could not wait to get back to the hostel to take a shower and wash all the sand off!
Today we also had our third English teaching classes. With prep time and becoming used to the classes and being teachers, mostly everyone seemed to definitely have a good experience today with their lessons and how the classes went. They seemed to flow smoother and the students looked like they took good information from the classes. My experience as being the leader of the day was great. Everyone thankfully listened to me and it was an experience that I very much enjoyed. Now its time to get ready for another challenge tomorrow by living on a dollar, taking bucket showers, and no electricity with it all being lead by the leader of the day Kwing!
Fun in the Sun Day! The beach looks great, hope the soccer was good. It’s terrific to be able to read about your adventures daily and I hope you all make some great memories. The bucket shower skills may prove to be useful in drought-stricken California… Take care.
It sounds like you all had a great day! How nice to spend the day at the beach. It was nice to see you in the group picture doing your “OK” pose. I’m relieved to know you are doing fine. I hope the teaching lessons are going well. I send you a big hug and kiss! Sean asked about you today and wanted to know that you are doing fine.
Nyla, I am so proud of you. What a great experience, you are learning about a different culture and the way the people of Nicaragua live. This is amazing and wonderful experience. This is something that will stay with you always and you can share it with your family and friends when you return home. I am so excited for you. Your posting is wonderful especially about you being a leader of the day. Take care of yourself, I love you and I cannot wait until you get back. God Bless you and your friends! Love Always Grandmama Edna
Hola! Qué tan gran día en la playa! Lo perfecto para ti, Nyla, para ser el líder del día en un deporte es la segunda naturaleza para usted. What a great day at the beach! How perfect for you, Nyla, to be the leader of the day on a sport that is second nature to you. It looks like you guys were on the island by yourselves. What a beautiful experience. So does this mean that when you come home, you will now enjoy some fish with me for dinner? Pretty girl, I am so happy that you had such a wonderful day. Your team, Synergy, took championship last weekend at The Runnin’ Rebels Gold Tournament; winning all games, both Saturday and Sunday. This weekend you guys have another tournament. Surviving off a dollar a day; you can do it. We talked about this day. Now, the bucket showers and life without electricity; on-the-other-hand sounds like a big challenge. You guys continue to inspire us; extraordinario. La familia dice:hola. Te amo como un loco, mamá!
!bien hecho!; !sigue así!; !síguele dando!
Hola niños ~ A Fun Day indeed! What could be more pleasant than an awesome trip to a ‘private island’ to emerge into some cool refreshing water, under that hot Nicaraguan sun, as Nyla so kindly put it. You guys got a lot of exercise, playing soccer, bodysurfing, exploring the island and collecting precious shells for keepsake I imagine to bring back home. The food did sound tasty Nyla, so thank you for the descriptive blog (fish with eyes and teeth). Nyla, being a leader for a day is a privilege, and I think you handled it very well. Continue to explore and learn more about Nicaragua, and I will be looking forward to hearing more about tomorrow’s challenges. Love you Nyla
What a wonderful experience!!! Away from tall buildings and too much traffic and instead, Enjoying the art of God, it is Amazing. There is nothing like it. Nyla and her group you will be the future leaders for sure. No doubt about it. You know why? It is because now, you have seen the other side of the world. From now on, your judgement for the other side of the world will change. Wait until you see how to leave a dollar a day and taking a bucket shower. I am telling you this I came from from the other side of the world too. I am so proud of you all. I can not wait to read the next blog. Thank you for sharing your experience. Enjoy!!! God Bless all of you.
The Beach!! What a great day! Kim, I hope you picked up a few shells for our shell collection. I forgot to pick some up during our trip to Jersey shores 🙁 Playing soccer on the beach, eating fresh fish, hanging out with friends, body surfing – the perfect day. It’s nice to hear that your group had your own personal Red Cross Lifeguard (thank you Global Glimpse). I’m sure it was a little hard to go back and prepare for your English classes which I’m happy to hear seemed to be a good day as well. You all are awesome. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to hear about the bucket showers and living on $1 for the day.

Hey guys and girls, It looks and sounds like you are having a good time. I bet everyone is learning that the sun and heat can wear you down. Well, everyone misses you in the States. I see the pose by my girls, so the heat has not made you turn on each other yet. It seems to be the half way point, so enjoy every minute because before you know it you will be back in the classroom.
