We are 10 days away from departing on our Global Glimpse adventure! Can’t wait to see you all at the United check-in counter at SFO’s Domestic Terminal 3 no later than 7:30 pm on Monday, July 2nd! (Except for those traveling from Boston or Philadelphia, we will see you in Newark!)

Students, if you haven’t done so already, please post an brief introduction to our trip blog! (you have already received directions in your email.)

Again, please remember the following:
1. Bring your PASSPORT and TWO PHOTO COPIES of your passport to the airport (if you currently have a foreign passport, you will also need to bring your actual Residency Card/Green Card as well)
2. Bring at least $10 in cash to purchase a tourist visa when we arrive in country.
3. Bring food or money for your breakfast before we catch our connecting flight to the DR. A meal at the airport is at least $15(coming and going)
3. Make sure you have followed the packing and baggage regulations outlined in the GG Packing List on portal.globalglimpse.org.
4. Make sure you have transportation arranged to get you to the airport!

In addition to the packing list that you have already received, our Program Coordinators also wanted us to highlight a few highly ENCOURAGED recommendations for us to bring:

1. Sometimes, it rains heavily and unexpectedly. So, bring a poncho and/or umbrella.
2. Bring plenty of bug spray!
3. Bring allergy medicines. Lots of rain means lush flora and fauna!
4. Bring light clothing because it’s so humid here but it can at times get chilly (bring a sweater).
5. Bring your curiosity, flexibility and open mind (We both like to talk about travelling so maybe you can share your experiences.)
6. Bring something from home that keeps you grounded & makes you happy (your favorite book/new book, sketchbook, picture of your family, etc)
7. Bring a cloth/mesh laundry bag to carry dirty clothes in so we don’t have to use much plastic
8. You are welcome to bring donations for our host communities. We will be collecting all donations throughout the summer and giving them to our Immigration Partner (Haitian
Community in Constanza). The donations that would best serve them are:
Spiral notebooks, Filler paper, Backpacks Elmer’s glue sticks, Pencil box or pouch, Large eraser, Ruler Folders, pocket. Binder, Crayola crayons, Pencils, Pencil sharpener, Crayola washable markers, Dictionary (Spanish- Spanish), paperback, Protractor, Highlighter, ballpoint pens, Subject dividers.

Bring your curiosity, flexibility and open mind (perhaps filled with some background knowledge on Dominican Republic). Remember, the DR is a developing country and may not have all the comforts of home you are accustomed to. For example, expect cold showers or bucket showers when the water isn’t running. This trip will be fun, but it will also challenge you.

Let us know if you have more questions or concerns. See you soon!
