“Vision without action is merely a dream; action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.” – Joel Barker
The day started off early with refreshing fruit salads for breakfast, followed by a seminar which revolved around the theme of the day: Aid and Development. The Glimpsers along with the GG Leaders discussed why having a vision without action is not sufficient without one another.
Later, we played a silly and fun “Bunny” game which included many many different movements and involved team work. It was a great way to learn how to multitask, work together, and have fun.
We took our first public bus ride today! It was packed!
Afterwards we had the pleasure to have presentations by two amazing guest speakers who have been serving as volunteers in the Peace Corps assigned in Nicaragua. They discussed their roles of being volunteers, their responsibilities, experiences, requirements, and much more. Through fun activities, they gave us a sense of awareness about the unequal distribution of wealth, and different perspectives on types of aids that the United States gives. Many of the students found this to be very enjoyable and greatly influential.
After lunch we got a chance to listen to another great guest speaker who informed us about the non-profit organization Sonati, which works mainly with youth and teaches them environmental awareness. The youth are taught about animal trafficking, different types of local animals, and the need to help save animals that are soon to become extinct. We also got a chance to walk the streets of Esteli and view some of the beautiful murals made out of any different recycled bottle caps. These murals were created by youth and Sonati volunteers. The youth learned how to be resourceful and using used bottles that they found on the streets and in the trash to create beautiful artwork as a way to bring awareness to the environment.
After all the exploring and eating we headed back to the hostel and had our nightly discussions. Were reflected on the day and had many great group conversations as usual. To end off the night we played a game of Mafia, and enjoyed the rest of the calm and cool night in Esteli.
Great blog Destiny! Wish I could see those murals! We miss you and love you!
