Hey Glimpsers!

In less than a week we will be embarking on an exciting journey to the beautiful country of Nicaragua. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait!

My name is Luz Escalante and I am the other GGL on this trip. I am an English teacher at East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy and have lived in the bay for 2 years now. I am originally from LA, but have spent the last decade in different areas of NorCal. I’ve never traveled to Central America, but I am beyond ready to see what it has in store for us.

One of the reasons I became a GGL was because I am a huge proponent of international travel and creating global citizens. Because growing up in a neighborhood where many people never leave the comfort of their area code, at a very young age I started traveling and learning about the world outside of my city. Having the opportunity to leave my state and my country have been some of the most valuable experiences of my life. I’ve learned so much, not only about other cultures, but especially about myself. I hope that chaperoning this trip will help me be a part of this amazing group of students’ journey of self-discovery and building the empathy needed in today’s world.

I look forward to bonding with all of you and making memories that will last a lifetime.
