Buenas Glimpsers!

We can’t believe the time is almost here. Before anything, we would like to express how excited we are to meet all of you this summer. We, your Program Coordinators, have spent the last three amazing months in Chitré’s heat planning a dynamic 16-day itinerary. We have forged so many amazing connections with the people and organizations here and we are ready to show you what “Chitre Progresa” is all about!

So, I am sure you are wondering: who are we?

I, Ignacio Peralta, am 26 years old and from Corinto, Nicaragua. I like to travel and have a special interest in knowing more about Latin America, its culture, traditions, and the amazing places that take our breath away. As a social worker, my dream has always been to work with community members to promote social justice, education, and to help take care of our environment. I believe if we have the courage to pursue our dreams, then we can achieve them. Global Glimpse has become a part of this dream. It has given me the chance to work with people who also want to make the world a better place, promote critical thinking, and call the people to action.

I, Amira Chambers Ottley, am 23 years old and from Brooklyn, New York. I’m a foodie who loves to dance and go on spontaneous adventures. Growing up in New York City, I was exposed to the diversity of people and cultures this world has to offer. I’ve always been fascinated by what drives people and what influences their perspective on the world. Moreover, I believe that if we can all see ourselves as part of a global community, and listen to the stories of others, we can be more impactful in our fight against social injustice, economic inequality, the opportunity gap, and the many other problems we face around the globe. In an exploration of this curiosity of mine, I have taken advantage of the travel opportunities to Cuba, Costa Rica, and more offered by my schools and the community. This same curiosity led me to Global Glimpse. So I look forward to being a part of your journey of self-discovery, global education, and new experiences.

So Glimpsers, now that you know who we are, it’s only fair that we get to meet you. LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN! In exactly two weeks we will begin our time together. We hope this experience will challenge you, excite you, and moreover that it inspires you to make changes in your community and the world. See you in Chitré!

And until then, here’s a Panamanian song that we’ll be sure to blast on a bus ride or two: Pureza Natural- Vámonos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMR1FRXUMZo).

Your PCs,

Ignacio Peralta and Amira Chambers Ottley
