¡Bienvenidos! From Kayla and Kevin to the families and friends viewing this blog,

Today we started our day pretty early, waking up at 6:00 AM. At 6:30 AM Ms. Sale held an optional meditation & stretching session that many Glimpsers enjoyed. At 6:45 AM we had an AMAZING breakfast that included pinto (traditional Costa Rican rice and beans), plátano maduro (fried plantain), jugo de naranja (orange juice), a slice of bread, and some eggs cooked in tomato rings with herbs. After we enjoyed our breakfast, at 7:45 AM we set out to hike two steep hills to get to the school that is 10 minutes away walking. When we arrived at the school, we signed our names in a sign-in book and met the principal of the school thereby giving us instructions of what projects to work on for the day.

For the first 4 hours of the start of our work from 8 AM – 12 PM, we divided into groups of two and worked on two different Community Action Projects (CAP). Group 1 consisted of Blair, Hannah, Wilber, Sebastian, Ian, Bella, Messiah, Dylan, Kayla, and Tai. Group 2 consisted of Kevin, Michael, Marcus, Jondell, Daniella, Ayanna, Stacey, Jasmine, Emilie, and Nelci. Group 1 dug up a large hole in the ground, about 5 feet deep, in order to bury the non-biodegradable trash that the school had for the beautification of the area. Group 2 dug up another large hole, about 4 four feet, in order to have a place for the school’s compost. Both groups gave their best efforts to start up these projects. We hope to make the biggest difference in the time given, while we still have 2 days left of work on the CAPs. Even though we have 2 days of our CAPs, we still have 8 days left in our journey.

At 12 PM, we had a wonderful lunch. We had white rice, pescado empanado (breaded fish), chicken for those that have dietary restrictions, Costa Rican chimichurri, and salad with vegetables. Overall, as always, the food was spectacular.

We got back to work at 1 PM till 3:30 PM and continued to progress with our digging and pulling of weeds for the school’s garden. Of course, we took breaks in between but we still worked hard, as we wanted to show our dedication to our purpose.

When we got back to our home base, many of us were exhausted from the many hours of hard work and were looking forward to taking showers. Some kids took a dip in the miniature pool. Soon after, dinner began at 5:30 pm, we enjoyed our hard shell tacos with shredded chicken, ground beef, chimichurri, bean paste, and salad. We ended our night by passing the sloth (torch), to our up-and-coming leaders of the day, which you’ll learn more about later.  And we are currently ending our night in hopes of a nurturing and long sleep, in preparation for take 2 of C.A.P.

Buenos noches, from Kevin and Kayla.
