Today was the second day of CAP building! We had an early wake up at 5:45 AM and of course the hardest group to get up was Stephen, Ben, and Lorenzo. Those boys love their sleep. We had a bumpy ride to El Robledal and we were all pretty sore and tired from the day before. Despite our exhaustion from CAP day one, we were all energetic and ready to work. Our first step was splitting into groups. One group focused on making cement, another worked on sifting sand for the cement, and the other group had the very difficult task of applying cement to the walls. Considering that today was the first time that most of us had ever worked with cement, we did an amazing job. Shout out to David for mixing cement pretty much all day. For those of you who have worked with cement before, you know how challenging that is. Towards the end of the work day we started planting plants all around the building to add a more aesthetic feel. Claudia and Stephen hung a few plants from the completed roof as well. We also made a border line with stones surrounding the school. John and Ben worked their tails off all day today. Their job was cutting wood and creating the windows. Several of us took on the task of transporting water from the lake back to the building site. Let’s just say our arms hurt so bad that we can’t even snap our fingers. But that’s okay because the pain is most definitely worth it. We also had a crew cleaning out the inside of the walls, which was extremely necessary before we start painting tomorrow. I can honestly say that I’m so proud to be a part of this group (E1A). Everyone is more than willing to help out on any way they can and we are making really great progress. Not only were all of us glimpsers working hard, but the locals were super helpful as well. People from the community ranging from ages 5 to 60 were helping us all day, every day. Working alongside them definitely motivates us to work harder and they are our constant reminder as to what we are doing here. We have one more day left and I’m so excited to see the final product! Today was also our second to last day of English classes. In a few classes the students threw us teachers surprise parties! Our students are all so sweet and it is awesome to see how much they have grown in these past few weeks. Not only has their English improved, but we have developed fun and lasting friendships with many of them. I think I speak for the whole group when I say that I’m really going to miss our students so much. Tonight I passed the El Lider Del DĂa hat to Emma and we also started writing our letters of appreciation to our donors. It was actually quite a productive work period. We are getting ready for our final day of CAP. Can’t wait for you guys to hear all about it! LOVE YOU ALL 🙂
