Hey it’s Sydney and Mary and we were the leaders of the day for our first day of our Community Action Project (CAP). This project is completed over the course of three days and it is beneficial and sustainable for the community. For our project, we decided to build an after school homework area for the children at the Villa La Cruz school.
We are also planting a garden and painting a mural for the school. Before, the students would have to do their homework in the hallways or outside in the sun. There was no protection from the weather. Today, we were able to put up six wooden posts for the homework area, prepare the garden for planting, and paint the mural for their stage.
We are extremely proud of the work our group did today and we managed to accomplish most of our goals for today. Working in smaller groups was very efficient and gave all of us opportunities to step up and be leaders within our groups. The students were eager to help paint and garden during their breaks. All the help we received today from the children and from the Club Infantil staff was greatly appreciated.
