Today was Culture Fun Day. We started the day by making masks with Dario Victoriano a.k.a. Gato, who is a champion mask maker for carnaval. Each of us got to make our own masks out of clay of our own design.
Then we learned two types of cultural Dominican dances – merengue and bachata. We had a great instructor, Paul Rosado, who kept us all on our feet and got everyone dancing. We were really proud of the group who all danced on their own and even in pairs!
Lastly we prepared our English lessons so that we can begin teaching tomorrow at the local school. We ended the day with our nightly meeting where we discussed the importance of culture, how culture brings people together, and what we can do to preserve and learn more about culture.
It sounds like an interesting, creative and very fun day! Thank you for the update.
Your blogs really help for us to imagine what fills each of your days as we go about our usual routines here at home.
Good luck at the school tomorrow!
Love the updates please keep them coming. So exciting for all the kids experiencing this adventure. Such a life adventure!

Raana!
It seems like you’re having great days packed full of amazing opportunities. I miss you so much, I reminiscing on our old times. Chic Fil A, slime, driving with too many people in the car, & even commenting on sell your stuff. I really wish I had the chicken biscuit right now. I will continue to comment as you make your way through this life changing journey.
Love you always,
Mak
P.S. just like Alex said, take your diarrhea pills so you don’t poopoo in your undies 🙂
Nothing like learning how to dance merengue el la Republica Dominicana. Enjoy your day at school!
Raana my angel of music I hope you are doing great and having a good time and being a good Christian! Maybe if you make it out of this trip alive I’ll believe you fit to go backpacking. If you are ever having a hard time just remember that I’m waiting here at home desperately for your return and you must be strong and live for me… and the baby. Remember when you had a bag of fluid attached to you? Good times. Okay now that all that is out of the way, my nails are fugged and I need to get them done, when are you free? I know you have work during the week but tomorrow? I asked your mom and she says you can go so I’ll see you then. God be with you.
