¡Buen día! From Chloe and Jennifer, today we got the honor of being leaders of the day! This morning we started the day bright and early at 7:15 am. We followed our morning with breakfast sandwiches with tamarindo (tamarind) juice. After we led the daily mental warm-up, which prepared us for the theme of the day: aid and development. Later on, we got the privilege of meeting our guest speaker Cicilia, who is part of an organization called “Algrias y Innoncente.” She was able to teach us about the tragic reality of daily poverty that many Dominicans face with school and basic necessities. She was able to give us solutions in order to help and support many communities in the Dominican Republic and the United States. Next, we returned to the hotel and were greeted with delicious food such as salad, porkchops, and rice with corn. Finally, we were able to officially learn what our CAP project was. We were planning the second phase of building the community center. Additionally, we got to go personally see the community, Cañada de las Palmas, and were able to meet the children and women living in the community. Lastly, we were able to wind down, and enjoyed 3 hours of free time. Everyone had the chance to catch up on reading, play games, and hangout with each other. Dinner was scrumptious with mashed potatoes mixed with yucca, vegetable salad, and sunny side up eggs. Big love to Rudy, our bus driver, who was able to get through the windy roads and crazy traffic. Also big love to all the GGLs (Global Glimpse Leaders) Sam, Katy, JC, and Ru, for making it to day five still sane. To call the night, we had our routinely nightly meeting and got to hand the torch to our new LDDs (Leaders of the Day) tomorrow, Adeleny and Lilly!
