Hey family it’s Erika and Fatima-Numa, the LDDs for today. We started off the day at 7:00 am when we woke everyone up for breakfast. We had oatmeal, toast, lettuce, tomatos, cheese, avacodos, ham, and bananas. After our lovely breakfast, we left to go to an NGO (a non-governmental organization) called Plan Yaque. There, we listened to Anya who gave us a presentation and explanation of what the organization does. They help the local communities of Jarabacoa by giving them 90% cleaner water which is very important to their everyday lives. Most of the water comes from the river called Yaque Del Norte and they treat the water from the watersheds and provide them for families.

Afterward, we came back to the Ranch and had some free time where many Glimpsers played games such as Phase 10, Uno, Speed, Ninja and Spoons. Then we had lunch which was pork, potato salad, and rice with corn as well as watermelon and pineapple lemonade. Then we went to Hatillo which is the community that we will be helping for our CAP (Community Action Project). We spoke to many community members including Olmedo who was the leader of that community. All the Glimpsers asked various questions about what their needs are, how we can help them, and the history of their town. Our CAP is going to be assisting in building the aqueducts for the community to provide water to over 150 families. We came back to the Ranch and started the design process for our CAP. We all participated in brainstorming the materials, safety precautions, the procedure, etc.

After a while, we had dinner with Global Glimpse staff members who came to visit us from the U.S. They mentioned that they will be sticking around for a while and see how things are going. For dinner we had, pork, mashed plantains, bread, vegetabes, lentils and smashed squash with tomato sauce. We spoke to the staff members and had a good time. After a long day, we had our nightly meeting and wrapped up passing the torch to Josue and Kevin who said the capital city of all the Lating American countires and did a handstand.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s blog post and the rest of the trip! Please leave comments so that we can read them to the students–they miss you all! BYE!
