Hello friends, family, and loved ones. Today’s theme was living like a local. In order to embrace this theme, Glimpsers were encouraged to sleep without electricity and take bucket showers. Many Glimpsers found this incredibly challenging. However, most Nicaraguans do this daily. We started our day off with a bucket shower and a walk to breakfast where we ate rice and beans. This dish is very common among locals despite their class differences.
After breakfast, we took a trip to an impoverished town referred to as Las Prusias. Here, students were able to live with a family for the day and experience what it’s like to live in poverty firsthand. We played games with the children, explored the land, and helped with household chores.
Next, we went to see the school in the area. This school was built by the locals with the help of non-profit organizations and Japan. This school severely lacks resources and infrastructure. It was heartbreaking to see the conditions in which these students learned and played. However, the founders of this school were full of pride and hope. This experience was very eye opening and inspiring. It will also help us appreciate what we have so much more when we return home.
We Glimpsers will be completing our Community action project at this school, which is meant to give back to the community. For example, we students want to: create a playground, designate areas for sports, add to their kitchen, donate supplies, and make the school a more positive place in general. We have a couple of hundred dollars raised, but it simply is not enough to make this place a better environment.
By 4:00 pm we were heading to English tutoring once again. This is starting to become one of our favorite activities. After this, we walked to dinner and had rice and beans once again.
Now it’s time for bed! Goodnight everybody!
P. S. I love you mom, Karla, Hovi, and Roberto. You are all greatly missed. -Karelys
P.S. I wanted to say I love you Ma, Dad, Tiff, Krystal, and Mali. I miss you guys so much and truly miss you guys. -Destiny

Hi Diana, I’m glad to hear you all had another wonderful day. The first week is almost ending and you all have accomplished so much along with your leaders. You should all be proud of yourselves. Kudos to you all.
Diana, I wish I had this opportunity during my upbringing. Being that I didn’t, I’m glad you made your decision to go through this experience. Everyday, I look forward to reading the daily blogs not just to see you in the picture but also to know what you did daily. It shows how much you have done for the communities and continue to do. Understand that there’s poverty in so many countries. I think is great that you were able to live with a family for the day and experience what poverty is. Sometimes we take life for granted not knowing what other people go through. After this experience, I’m sure you and the other students will appreciate what you have and more.
Diana, I miss and luv you so much. Please don’t worry about me, I’m good. Your aunt keeps asking about you and so is everyone else. Please take care and can’t wait to hear your voice on Saturday. Luv mom!

Everyday we become more proud of the accomplishments. We’re assuming it was the most unique experience yet, living with the people of Las Prusias and enduring the daily hardships they face for a lifetime. Being able to observe the families and their indomitable spirit, along with the school children persevering through grueling conditions sounds like an extraordinary life lesson.
Morgan can’t wait to hear all about the bucket shower, something we never thought you would try! Also, do you still think PPAS is a run down urban school? 😉

Hi everyone. Hi Bianca love and kisses…
This day most have been a aye opener for you guys staring with the bucket showers. Lol, where one has to make sure not to run out of water before rinsing the soap Lol… you guys had a face to face encounter with poverty, experienced it for a few hours interacted with a family and played with kids less fortunate than you guys, NO PLAY STATION REQUIRED, Lol… being able to improvise and use what is arround you to create ways to have fun is the key, and you guys did it. I’m so proud of all of you guys who took this trip. I am sure it has been a humbling experience for you guys.
