Hey y’all! It’s Josephine and Sergio. Today was Day 7, so we are officially halfway through the trip! The day started off gloomy with lots of rain but no water in our accommodation (which was later fixed). Breakfast was rice and beans, egg, sausage, and toast. Then our mental warm-up was a few rounds of Frogger and Follow the Leader. Since today is Fun Day, our main activity was a trip to the Las Trillizas Waterfall. We got all of our equipment ready and away we went! Our bus ride through the mountains was breathtaking, with rolling meadows and low-lying clouds setting the scene. The gravely steep roads made for a rocky trip, but it was no problem for the driver. For our hike, it began with slippery slopes, close calls, and plenty of mud. The hike to the waterfalls was about 20 minutes with a downward slope. All of us were amazed at how lush the rainforest was. When we arrived at the waterfall many pictures were taken and then we went for an exhilarating swim all around the waterfall. The water was extremely cold, but the unique experience made up for it. However, the rocks around the waterfall were slippery and made getting in and out of the water a bit tricky. The hike back was super steep and rainy. When we returned to the trailhead we ate at the nearby restaurant. People ate one of 5 options of traditional Costa Rican dishes. On the way back we made a pit stop at the supermarket. We got lots of chips, candy, fruits, guacamole ingredients, and food for our families back home. Then back to our accommodation for Free Time. The card game “Speed” has taken our delegation by storm, with an average of 3-5 games happening at once. Some Glimpsers hung out and played Speed, and others went to town to hang out with the local children. We played soccer with them and it was so heartwarming to see how excited they got to play with us. The results of the game are still under review, but we had so much fun. Then dinner, which was rice with delicious pork stew. Then more Speed, other card games, chess, and then the nightly meeting where we talked about our day and discussed some prompts related to the activities. Many of us examined the relationship between responsibility and freedom. We really enjoyed exploring areas of the waterfall but understood that we were only able to experience this because of previous actions taken to protect this natural landscape. It furthered our belief to make sustainable and environmentally conscious decisions in our everyday lives. Signing off for now, but tomorrow we finally start our Community Action Project!
