HOLA! Hello, families of all glimpsers. Today is the 8th installment of the SPA1 trip!!!! Today, Jennifer and I were the leaders of the day (LDD). The theme of today was Immigration, and I’ll let my partner, Jennifer, explain the themes more in-depth.

We went to visit ASCALA an organization that helps support Haitian immigrants and gives them access to legal help whether that’s for renewing an ID to stay in the country or a defense when being subject to getting deported. We spoke to a nun who shared how unfair the conditions for Haitian immigrants are like racism and social discrimination when arriving in the DR, like not having the ability to get citizenship and proper wages and job opportunities, besides intensive labor.

Going back to what we did, we had an insightful experience meeting a local sugar cane worker. He had been in the business for 15 years. The cap project was amazing work, we had a group discussion and all reached a consensus on how we should tackle the upcoming CAP days and the fun, but hard work. We all designated jobs, break time, rules, and more to ensure that we all were prepared for the days ahead. Dinner and lunch were also amazing as always. Thank you all so much for reading another blog, and we hope you all read it tomorrow!
