Today we had a more relaxed schedule, waking up at 7:00 am and having breakfast at 8:00 am in the spirit of Free Day. Breakfast was gallo pinto, eggs, bread, and a side of fruit. We originally planned to visit the Aquiares waterfall but were unable to due to weather conditions, so instead were able to visit two historic locations nearby.
We went to the Los Pozotes Aquaduct (a 700-year-old spring) and did a short hike to a Ceiba tree (one of Costa Rica’s oldest trees). During this hike, we had a lot of fun taking pictures and getting soaked in the rain. When the weather worsened, we returned to the base house and watched Spirited Away.
Later, we ate pizza and chicken wings for lunch. After that, we had some downtime, which some of us also used to swim in the pool and make mid-trip calls to our families. We were able to tell them how great of an experience we are having here in Costa Rica and ask how things are going on at home. We then had Garbanzo soup with rice and a side of salad for dinner.
Nearing the end of the day, we had our nightly meeting. We filled out a survey about our experience during our first week in Costa Rica and passed the torch to tomorrow’s leaders (Chi Chun & Eliana). Although today didn’t go as originally planned, we were able to work around it and have a great time.
¡PURA VIDA! -Tyler & Marisol 🙂
Wow Los Pozotes Aquaduct is really pretty, as is the seiba tree. Good to have a “free day” since you guys are do so many things. Can’t wait to hear about the CAP work coming up and to see what you all will contribute! Great write up!
Hey Tyler and Marisol, this is a great blog summary, you all looked soaked in front of the Ceiba tree though! Sorry to hear that the day didn’t go as planned due to the weather and you didn’t get to go to the waterfall but it sounds like you made the best of it and were able to pivot with changes to the itinerary. Rolling with the punches is what travel and leadership is all about!
Sorry Audrey, I missed your mid-week call. I heard that you had a good chat with Daddy and are having a great time. I miss you lots, and if Daddy didn’t share… there a six caterpillars in the butterfly garden; they will be pretty chunky when you get back.
Glad the poncho came in handy, & you all got some great sightseeing in & Studio Ghibli time with Spirited Away. Glad to see you’re all having fun.
Hi Tyler – It was so nice to hear from you yesterday. I am so glad you are having a fabulous time. We look forward to reading the daily posts and we were so excited to see that you were the leader for the day. What a day for an adventure. Take in every minute and enjoy yourself. We are all thinking about you!
Happy to see you all having so much fun!!!!!
