Today we had a more relaxed schedule, waking up at 7:00 am and having breakfast at 8:00 am in the spirit of Free Day. Breakfast was gallo pinto, eggs, bread, and a side of fruit. We originally planned to visit the Aquiares waterfall but were unable to due to weather conditions, so instead were able to visit two historic locations nearby.

We went to the Los Pozotes Aquaduct (a 700-year-old spring) and did a short hike to a Ceiba tree (one of Costa Rica’s oldest trees). During this hike, we had a lot of fun taking pictures and getting soaked in the rain. When the weather worsened, we returned to the base house and watched Spirited Away.

Later, we ate pizza and chicken wings for lunch. After that, we had some downtime, which some of us also used to swim in the pool and make mid-trip calls to our families. We were able to tell them how great of an experience we are having here in Costa Rica and ask how things are going on at home. We then had Garbanzo soup with rice and a side of salad for dinner.

Nearing the end of the day, we had our nightly meeting. We filled out a survey about our experience during our first week in Costa Rica and passed the torch to tomorrow’s leaders (Chi Chun & Eliana). Although today didn’t go as originally planned, we were able to work around it and have a great time.

¡PURA VIDA! -Tyler & Marisol 🙂
