Hello friends and family! Only two more days until we are back in California! Today we got to sleep in until 8 which was much needed after 3 hard days of CAP. We headed over to Buffet Estelí at 9 and headed back to the hostel at 10.

When we arrived back to the hostel the glimpsers wrote their rough drafts of the letters of appreciation. Many glimpsers reflected back on their experience wishing they could do it again. These heartfelt letters were filled with many memories, lessons learned, and appreciation for the people we worked with.

Everyone split off in smalls groups for their final free day in Estelí. Everyone either went to call their families and friends or shopped for food. Carla, Leeza, Crystal, and I ran into our English tutoring students while getting smoothies with Fran and her friends. Lunch was at 1 at Buffet Estelí. After lunch some of us stayed back to take a nap while others didn’t waste a minute and dashed off to buy the last items off their shopping list. Big thanks to Ally, Sean, Crystal, Jenny, and Jessica for buying the supplies to donate to Vida Joven where some community groups meet, as well as surprising me with cough drops since I stayed back because I wasn’t feeling too good. Others groups went to go get refreshing smoothies, cute souvenirs, and the hard to find froyo shop that got many glimpsers almost lost. I ended up going with the previous group that got supplies to go for a second trip to the store, this time getting a whiteboard and markers. Sean was spotted on the roof playing with his new wooden machete he just bought. Crystal and Ally used their muscles to carry a giant whiteboard up a hill avoiding all the cars, people, and trash along the way.

Everyone met up at 5:45 to go have their final dinner at Buffet Estelí which left many sad when they realized it. The nightly meeting took place after dinner and began with everyone talking about their last full day in Estelí. I challenged Ally to tell us a funny story which she thought was sad but funny and had us all in laughs. Sorry for such a short summary even though it was a long fun day.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Lin
