Hi Glimpsers!

My name is Cara Liuzzi and I teach 12th grade English and Creative Writing at Lionel Wilson College Prep in East Oakland. I have taught high school English for 7 years now (5 years in Oakland and 2 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin), and I love it! Last summer I traveled to Guaranda, Ecuador with Global Glimpse and I had such an amazing experience that I knew I had to be a Global Glimpse Leader again!

A little about me: I am originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have a twin sister (she is in the right with the baseball cap in my picture). I love to play sports (soccer, basketball, softball, ultimate frisbee), go backpacking, read, and write poetry.  I am also obsessed with the Philadelphia Flyers mascot, Gritty!

I have wanted to travel to the Dominican Republic ever since taking a class in college called “Music from the Hispanophone Caribbean” where we listened to lots of bachata and merengue. I also wrote one of my major papers in college on Junot Diaz’s novel The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and since then I have been excited to someday travel to the DR.  I am so excited to experience Jarabacoa with you all and to get to know each and every one of you! We are going to have so much fun and also learn a lot and have a really meaningful trip.

You can text, call, or email me with questions about our trip:

Hasta pronto,
