My name is Sixto Cabral, and one of SJ2’S program coordinators. I’m originally from San Juan where the students will be spending the next two weeks! Today was my opportunity to be leader of the day and thus my turn to write today’s blog, an opportunity all Glimpsers will get to do! Today was our city tour and we had a great experience learning more about Dominican Republic’s history, and getting to know the city of San Juan de la Maguana which is located in the South of the country around 200 km away from Santo Domingo.

We learned a lot about everything related to Tainos (the first people who inhabited the island), and about the Cacicazgo (the different sites the island was divided into), the meaning of a Cacique (a leader who leads each Cacicazgo), we also dove deeper in talking about politics, education, religion and the three founding fathers of The Dominican Republic. We hope to keep teaching and pushing our students more every day to learn everything related to this beautiful country as well as improve their leadership skills and have fun! Today was indeed a step closer to this goal!

P.s. Stay tuned for our daily blogs, as we will have different Glimpsers posting as they fulfill their LDD roles (all the students already have signed up to lead on specific themed days).

Thanks,

Sixto
