Coffee! Beans! This is Cheska and Laila writing from Jarabacoa ☕🤎.

In today’s episode of our JA1B trip, we woke bright and early at 6:00 a.m. and sang “22” by Taylor Swift as our wake up call. After having a scrumptious breakfast and doing the Mental Warm Up (information about the coffee plantation), we headed to Vivero de Cafe, a local coffee plantation. We did some morning stretches and warmed up our bodies to prepare for the hard work ahead. In groups, we started weeding the coffee plants and the boss there was satisfied with our work. He also enjoyed the wonderful music we played, including Queen, Nicki Minaj, Bad Bunny and many more. Then, when we finished working at the coffee plantation, we headed back to the hostel for lunch.

When we finished lunch, we took the Safari Bus to the coffee factory and were given a lovely tour by Sury, our tour guide. Our delegation learned about machines that processed the coffee beans and we had the privilege to take a closer look of the inner functions of the factory. They were also kind enough to let us have a sample of their coffee. When we got back to the hostel, we met in small groups to discuss our experiences at the plantations and how global businesses affect both the workers and local communities.

Furthermore, we had a delicious dinner and had a productive nightly meeting. In all, it was an insightful day and we are looking forward to the CAP Delivery. Coming soon in the next episode!
