half domeGreetings fellow travelers!

I am one of your group leaders, John Sierra.  This will be my second trip to Nicaragua, and I am so excited to be going with all of you to explore, educate and experience Jinotega!

I teach AP Environmental Science at Freedom High School in Oakley (east of Antioch).  Getting outside and interacting with the world is a great passion of mine.  The photo on the left was when I made the final ascent up Half Dome in Yosemite in 2014.  I’ve been to almost all 50 states in the U.S. and have traveled to 5 other countries including Spain, China, Ethiopia, Canada and Nicaragua.  Each adventure was so eye-opening and transformative for my life, I’m convinced that traveling is the most beneficial thing anyone can do to truly understand our place in the world.  It makes sense that we’re with Global Glimpse!

I had such an amazing experience in Nicaragua 3 years ago, and I’m certain each of you will have an experience of a lifetime!  I look forward to meeting all of you and sharing this adventure together.

Hello Glimpsers! My name is Hannah Kahl, your other leader. I’m really looking forward to having this experience with all of you!

I love to travel! I have lived and worked in Ecuador, Mexico, and Uganda. I have also visited New Zealand, Europe, Guatemala, and Vietnam. This will be my first trip to Nicaragua! I can’t wait to meet the people, practice my Spanish, try new food, and learn about the culture and history.

I’m the Education Manager at a non-profit called Youth Uprising in Oakland. We run all types of programs for young people (13-24)  including academic support, career readiness, and arts & expression. Its so important to me that young people’s voices are heard and that young people have an opportunity to explore this big diverse world.

I’m truly thrilled to be exploring and learning with all of you this June in Nicaragua!
