Hello, my name is Kate Scott (Krumrei) and I can’t wait to meet all of you and enjoy this wonderful experience of Guaranda, Ecuador together in just a few weeks!

I am 35 years old and I’ve lived in the Berkeley for about 7 years now.  I’m originally from the Midwest – Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa – and went to Texas Christian University in Ft Worth, TX for my BS in Education and then American University in Washington D.C. for my MA in Ethics, Peace, and Global Affairs.   I’m currently teaching at a public, OUSD middle school in the Fruitvale, East Oakland.  I teach ELD to newcomers from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, and Yemen.  My favorite thing in the entire world is traveling.  I have been fortunate in my life and have visited all 50 states and over 25 countries. I love learning about culture, traditions, food, language, history, etc.  I also enjoy, spending time outdoors hiking, camping, etc. – as well as reading, baking, and hanging out with my friends!

I decided to become a GG Leader – this is my first trip – because one of the most transformational travel experiences I had was on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic when I was 16 years old.  I feel that travel is one of the most influential educational experiences that a young person can have – and I would like to be a part of providing that for other young people!  I want to share my love of travel and see things through the eyes of younger travelers.  I’m very much looking forward to meeting everyone, getting to know each student, and experiencing a culture together.  I love South American food, I enjoy using my Spanish, and I can’t wait to learn about the mountain culture (I spent three months in Ecuador previously, but I was only in the jungle with the indigenous people, the Achuar).

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Here’s my new passport pic… hope you have yours ready to go, too!

These are some of my amazing students!

My partner and I got married two years ago – meet Patrice!
