Hey everyone!
My name is Kelly Nguyen, but you can also call me by my nickname Kellyfornia. I am an upcoming senior at Andrew Hill High School in San Jose, California! I am looking forward to meeting all of you and experiencing new things through this awesome program with you guys. I’ve always wanted to travel around the world, and Global Glimpse is a huge step for me to step out of my comfort zone in another country while helping out the community and meeting new people!
Here are some facts here and there about me!
I am part of an organization called Interact. It’s a service based volunteering club that encourages high school students to help out their own communities and also communities worldwide. I feel incredibly lucky to live the life I have today. Often times, I take for granted how easily accessible resources and technology is to where I live. I signed up for Global Glimpse to reach out and directly help out a community that is less fortunate than I am while learning their about their vibrant culture. My favorite thing about volunteering and helping others is learning about different people’s stories and seeing the smile on their faces!
I’m also involved with student government at my school and will be studying computer science next month in San Diego! I love participating in sports, but running holds a special place in my heart. I enjoy cross country and track and field. If anyone would like to set up group runs during our free time in Ecuador, count me in! (under our group leader’s discretion, or course) My favorite food and beverage is In N Out and milk tea. My favorite genre of music is indie rock and alternative. Other hobbies and activities I enjoy in my free time is crafting and binge watching whatever I come across on Youtube.
A friend and I are setting up a group chat of everyone in our trip on Facebook so we can communicate and ask each other questions. I’m so pumped to get to know all of you and create new friendships! i hope to grow as a global citizen, activist, student, leader, and friend through this trip!
