Today we started with a wake-up call at 7:00 a.m. by our fourth Lideres Del Dia (LDD’s), Brisa Arteaga and Ishaly Lopez.

After breakfast at 7:30 a.m., we got on the bus and headed to Pedasi, a small beach town about 35 minutes away. Once we arrived, we separated into four groups in order to go with four different families. We all got to experience what it was like to live like a local and spent a few hours in the houses of each family, chatting with them and hearing their stories. Later, we had a small presentation about “Teach PTY”, an after-school organization in Pedasi that teaches English to local kids. The organization was founded by a Jose Abrego, a Panamanian who started this organization by himself and accepts volunteer English teachers year-round to teach in the community. Additionally, the organization offers yoga, meditation, and music. After the presentation we ate lunch with our families and had to give our goodbyes, along with our gifts, to Jose, Ivette,Yelitza, Diniela, Dinora, and of course all the kids!

At around 1:15 p.m. we headed back to the hotel. When we got back the glimpsers were able to go around town to explore and eat out. Afterwards, reflected on what it means to “live like a local” in Pedasi and in Panama. We came together as a whole group and shared about our experiences with the different families. We realized we could be more humble and positive about the privileges and lifestyles that we live, and our coordinator Arleen also shared stories from her childhood.

Afterwards,  we prepared for our next English tutoring session, which will take place on Sunday evening. At 6:30 we ate dinner and had some free time to call our loved ones. Tears were seen all across the room while we shared our homesickness and the love we have for our families. Finally, at 8:00 p.m. we had our nightly meeting and finalized our thoughts on our Panamanian families.

Ok byyyyyeeeeeeeeeeee,

Ishaly y Brisa

Happy 59th birthday, Dad!
