19 of us woke up at 8:00 AM and headed for breakfast at 9 AM A person fell ill so a chaperone had to stay behind with him. For breakfast, we had crackers with salt, watermelon, chicken sausages, and coffee- something light so that lunch and dinner would make us full. After breakfast, we started with the mental warm-up, a short summary of today’s lesson, Education in Ecuador. There are about 244 million children and youth between the ages of 6 and 18 who are not currently in school. In the United States, between 2000 and 2021 the college enrollment rate for Black and Hispanic people is drastically low as their percentage rates is 33% and 36%, while compared to whites and Asians their rate is 56% and 66%. The cost of education in the U.S. is still a major barrier to accessing college with student debt coming in at over $30,000 which can cause financial crisis.

We headed to a place called “Love On,” an organization that teaches young children to speak English. This program partnered with Global Glimpse so we can help the children communicate with foreigners. The Global Glimpse team was split into two teams, Group 1 had to help children make night lights for when a baby is in a cradle. Group 2 had to help children design a frog and make the party blower act as the tongue. It was a really neat design, as the kids and myself included enjoyed our time together. Soon we all met and together we took a picture together with the children holding their craft as a final goodbye. We also had ice cream after dinner 😉.
