Saludos to both of our families and everyone reading this. Today we were Lideres del Dia,and took charge of todays activities that centered around the theme of poverty in Nicaragua. The day comensed with a poverty seminar where we discussed that two out of every three people struggle to surrvive on a U.S. dollar per day. We also spent most of our time visting ¨The dump¨ and the orphnage.
This truly opened up our eyes to the extreme poverty that burdens the local Nicaraguan people. While at the dump,we had the amazing oppurtunity to interview some of the people who scavanged for materials to sell in order to survive the day. After geting to know them, we invited their children, who also work there, to play a friendly game of soccer. Is it was sad to leave the kids so soon but at the same time it was enticing to see their positive mindsets, and how eager they were to play with us.
On our next stop (literally because we had to ride the public bus) we went the orphange. Where we were overwhelemed by the loving arms of the beautiful children. We gathered all the children to play baseball in which we attempted to play, but failed. The orphanage really solitified the theme of the day, and made us think of the long term effects of poverty.
PSA : TO ALL THE PARENTS EXCPECT TO HEAR FROM US TOMORROW. ITS OUR FIRST FREE DAY!
-Natalie&Iveth (Lot of love to both of our families we love and miss you a lot especially: Jesse,Emily,Bella,Gabriel,Ariannah, and Aylin!<3)
Omg guys it’s me hope your having fun over there and I can’t believe it’s already been like a week. Also, I know I’m not family but I’m pretty much family so I’ll just imagine you put me on that list lol
Thank you for giving the kids a free day! It was so nice to hear Jacqui’s voice. I cannot believe Jacqui has been disconnected from technology for a week now! I’m actually glad that cell phones and laptops were not permitted on this trip. In order to truly experience the life in Nicaragua, the kids needed a full immersion into the culture without access to their personal luxuries.
Thank you, Global Glimpse, for sponsoring this program!!
