Hello to all you amazing Glimpsers!! My name is Elena, and I only came to San Francisco in January 2019 (from Hillsboro, Oregon). I was working at Gateway High School teaching Spanish up until recently–what am I doing next? Who knows! What I do know is that I’ll be in Costa Rica with all of you starting August 1st. 🙂

This will be my first time being a Global Glimpse Leader (GGL), though with a good amount of Costa Rica knowledge under my belt: I was born there!!

That’s me in the stylish bowl cut in San José (maybe late 1996 or early 1997)

I’ve been visiting every 3-4 years to see family, and now am stoked to go back as a GGL. Turrialba is new to me since I grew up in Heredia and my family lives in San José. I can’t wait for you all to experience first-hand what makes Costa Rica so special and memorable–the food, the people, the wildlife, the soccer fans, the history?! Or maybe it’s the way directions are written (my favorite). Whatever it is, I hope you find something awesome to connect with. <3

I’m grateful my co-worker (also a GGL earlier in the summer) introduced me to Global Glimpse–after studying abroad in college and later interning for our study abroad office, I realized that the statistics become very skewed on who gets to go abroad! Students of color are especially underrepresented, and I became very passionate about ensuring that all students get the opportunity to get to know their world more.

See y’all at 4:40 AM in SFO on August 1st!!!! <3
