Hello friends and families! We have arrived!

Today we have received our amazing third delegation. We had lunch at Subways to kill some time and wait for our students on separate flights. In the meantime we introduced ourselves and got to know one another via iceabreakers and activities. After everyone met up at the airport (including students on separate flights) we made our way to beautiful Matagalpa. However, today’s 2 hr bus ride came with traffic, people pilled up on top of buses, music, Nicaragua’s flag waving side to side, and lots of red and black. Today, marks the 35th anniversary of the triumph of the Sandinista Revolution in which Sandinista troops led by nine commanders freed the country from its dictator Anastasio Somoza. It was a very warm and exciting welcome for everyone.

As we arrived in Matagalpa we were able to unpack and relax before our delicious dinner prepared by our wonderful cook Doña Francis. Today dinner consisted of the traditional gallo pinto, meatballs, tajadas (fried plantains), cuajada (cheese), and avocado. After dinner we went over some rules and safety precautions to make this trip unforgettable. Everyone participated in making their group agreements and pledge to always stay true to it. With that said after many hours of flying, waiting around, and very short naps, we are calling it a night. Tomorrow we will begin full throttle!

Adios amigos y familias. Buenas noches y que VIVA NICARAGUA!
