Dear Families of Glimpsers,

As many of you know, Global Glimpse Delegation SJ1C’s flight from Boston to Newark this morning was cancelled due to lightning storms. Although airlines are not responsible for flights cancelled due to weather conditions, we were able to get assistance from the incredible team at United Airlines. Each student (and leader) received $20 food vouchers to provide breakfast and lunch.  United then helped us book all of the students on American Airlines flight 2162 to fly to LaGuardia Airport at 1:00PM, where they’ve arrived safely. They are now en route to Newark, NJ where they will spend the night at the Wyndham Hotel in Newark, New Jersey before continuing on to the Dominican Republic in the morning.

Tomorrow morning, they will be on two separate flights from Newark Airport to Santo Domingo. Each flight will have an Global Glimpse Leader (GGL) so that no students are traveling without an adult.
  • The first departure is United Airlines Flight 1984 leaving at 6:26 AM and arriving in Santo Domingo (SDQ) at 10:28 AM
  • The second departure is United Airlines Flight 1470 leaving EWR at 10:26 AM and arriving to SDQ at 2:28PM
Please refer to the GG portal for flight information of your student.

Our Staff in the Dominican Republic are aware of the situation and have been very accommodating to ensure that the Program Coordinators (PCs) will be waiting at the airport for each group to arrive. They will then travel to San Juan de la Maguana and have some much needed rest before jumping into any activities.

The whole group of students and GGLs have been incredibly patient and the leaders report that spirits are high and the students are already bonding. One of the students this morning said, “I’m still so excited for the D.R, and this will just be another story to tell”.

Thank you to all parents and guardians for your patience as we make alternative arrangements due to the flight cancellation, we appreciate your understanding. We also want to recognize United Airlines for going above and beyond, providing food, an alternative flight to NY, ground transportation between LaGuardia and Newark, and then being able to get our students and leaders on flights tomorrow morning that seemingly had no room earlier this morning.

Please feel free to reach out to Alex or myself if you have any additional questions.

Thank you again for your patience.

Take care,
Jamie, Alex, and the Global Glimpse Team
