June 17th – Fun Day #2

Hey everybody!

Day 12 in Jinotega has definitely been one to remember. We all got the chance to sleep in and had breakfast at 8.  Pancakes and syrup put smiles on everybody’s face and it was a great way to start the day. We then headed to Lago Apanas! Once we arrived at the lake, it was non-stop play. Even though it was wet and the sun wasn’t sunny- we still had lots of good fun that was funny! (That’s a Dr.Seuss quote). We played team-building games that emphasized our great communication skills. Our little delegation gets closer and closer with every activity with each day that passes by. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we’ve created a bond unlike any other.

Out in the middle of a cow & horse field with minimal materials, we got pretty creative with our games. From double-dutch to volleyball in the pouring rain and catching frogs in the mud, it was simply just some good-old-fashioned fun. It was like being a little kid again and we all really needed that. Soon, we were off land and paddling against the current in kayaks. Most of us tipped over and were soaked head-to-toe (me included). Tristen & Sophia loved splashing everyone and Terez got stuck in the mud. Although a majority of our group had never kayaked before- I think we did pretty well.

After changing out of wet clothes and eating lunch, we chased the cows, tried to pet the horses, and did cartwheels across the grass. We headed back to the hostel, got snacks at the market, and had some free time. Card games have become pretty popular among us- anything from Solitaire to Texas Hold ‘Em. For dinner, we changed things up a bit and went to La Terraza, a restaurant about a block away from home. The food was great and it was fun to dress up and go out.

And…. That’s about it. Rain or shine- Global Glimpsers know how to have fun and make the most of the day. I love them all so much and it’s bittersweet to know that there’s only 5 days left in our trip. But, as I sit here and type this, I look to my left and see them chillin’ on the couch, cuddled in blankets, and eating popcorn. It’s our own little family and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

I’m going to add a bunch of pictures now.

Thanks Mom for letting me borrow your fuzzy headband, it came in handy today.
